Dear Mr. BeBee,
I was wondering, what do you think the best fiber is, and why?
- M. Ito
Response:
Dear Ms. Ito (lovely name by the way).
In my humble opinion, I believe that wool is absolutely the best fiber to use for anything. Wool is naturally stretchy because of the natural curl of the staples. That being said, if you have a wool allergy, I think cotton is good too. I tend to stay far away from anything made of a glorified plastic (acrylic, polyesther, etc) because it burns your hands when you are knitting and makes the act of knitting somewhat less pleasurable. Plus, if you turn your nose up at the cheap stuff, everyone will think you have good taste!
Dear Mr. BeBee,
Why do you only have one eye??, it's pretty creepy!
-S. Sasaki
Dear Mr. Sasaki,
It's funny you mention that...I had forgotten about it. About 15 years ago I was hunting egret and an old man behind me thought I was a deer...I should get a patch so I don't frighten poor people like yourself. My apologies!
Dear Mr. BeBee
Every time I knit in public, someone asks me if I will make them something...when I give them a hopeless looking face they offer to pay. I don't want to do such knitting jobs, what do I do???
- T. Suzuki
Dear Ms. Suzuki,
I feel your pain, as a knitter myself (yes, boys knit too) I often deal with this conundrum. But I have learned over the years how to say no. Saying no openly and honestly can be absolutely gratifying and life changing...but if you suck at it, you can always hand them a pair of crap needles from your stash and a ball of wool and tell them you will teach them how to knit. I do that all the time and I never get another request from that particular person. Be selfish, it feels good!
Dear Mr. BeBee,
I have been in a five year relationship with a man who hates wool. He hates the feel of it, he refuses to hug me if I am wearing a sweater, he will never wear any of my hand knits because they are itchy, and he rolls his eyes every time I pick up my needles. I am at the end of my rope, because knitting is the closest thing to my heart, aside from him....but my yarn is starting to come between us!
Help!
- R. Ota
Dear R,
Oh Honey,I understand! My partner of 15 years and I finally broke up because of the "wool problem"... I'm afraid I have very little advice, accept if you really love him, you should try knitting with cotton...its almost as gratifying....almost. Good luck!
